Jonathan Zisser

Jonathan Zisser was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. His father, Elliot Zisser, and uncle, Barry Zisser, are the two senior partners in the firm. His mother, Carolyn Zisser, also practices law at her successful firm in Neptune Beach. Jonathan has one sister, Alison, who is a child psychologist with the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and one daughter Lily. Growing up, Jonathan attended the Bolles School and then Vanderbilt Univeristy in Nashville, Tennessee where he majored in Geology and minored in American Politics. Jonathan was 4 year letterman on the varsity cross country and track teams, while being a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity.

Jonathan pursued his studies after graduation at Vermont Law School in South Royalton, VT. There he focused on environmental law where he was active in both the moot court and environmental moot court teams for three years, before spending a semester interning in Washington, D.C. at the Ocean Conservancy. Jonathan focused his efforts in bringing all coastal states into compliance with the Coastal Zone Management Act and on litigation involving the Clean Water Act and the Marine Mammal Protection Act.

In 2000, Jonathan moved to Washington, D.C., and began working as an associate at Defender’s of Wildlife, an environmental non-profit group where he focused on Endangered Species Act litigation. While focusing on his career, Jonathan also worked as an associate at the Rotbert Law Group, a boutique firm in Rockville, MD where he concentrated on environmental issues for clients in the state of Florida.

In the winter of 2003, Jonathan moved back home to Jacksonville after accepting a position as an Assistant Public Defender for the Fourth Judicial Circuit. This is where he began developing his skills in criminal defense. Over the next five years, he represented thousands of clients in all aspects of criminal law and tried over 30 jury trials. He received special recognition for his work in representing clients in the Habitual Felony Offender and Civil Commitment divisions.

Jonathan began practicing as an associate with Zisser Law, in November of 2007 where he maintained his focus in criminal defense and began practicing family and matrimonial law. Jonathan is a member of the Florida Bar and Jacksonville Bar Associations, the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the American Family Law Inns of Court. In his free time, Jonathan enjoys cheering on the Jaguars, surfing, biking and enjoying life in North Florida.

Jonathan is currently a partner with Zisser Law focusing mostly in matrimonial and family law.
